Rotherham Flourish is a collaborative project between Sheffield Flourish (Shirin Teifouri) and Mowbray Gardens library. The project has been funded by Rotherham City Council, Esh Communities and Lotto Awards for All.
This art-based project is designed to build communities, generate solidarity, and explore the idea of ‘flourishing’ by providing a creative space for people who have experienced different kinds of mental health difficulties and isolation in Rotherham. To engage creatively and critically with nuances, layers, and complexities of mental health distress and the related societal problems, we use different art-based mediums of expression such as storytelling, poetry, drawing, painting, and creative writing. During the 10-week course we invite guest artists, poets and writers to facilitate workshops and inspire participants to express their thoughts and explore what ‘flourish’ means to them. At the end of each course, the works of participants are displayed in an exhibition in Mowbray Gardens library and published on Sheffield Flourish website.
