Volunteers' Week
Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.
So many local services and community based provisions wouldn’t be possible without the support of volunteers.
The total economic impact of formal volunteering activity in England has been estimated at £24.7bn a year by government-commissioned research undertaken by London Economics, Basis Social and NPC.
At Sheffield Flourish volunteers have been an important part of our work for some time, with the majority of our groups led, run and supported by volunteers.
Our volunteer programme has gone through some recent changes to make it more fit for purpose and clearer for those interested in volunteering to get involved. In a collaboration between Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (SHPU) and ourselves at Sheffield Flourish volunteers now have access to volunteering opportunities at both organisations through the same route.
What do we mean by volunteer?
A volunteer is a person who supports SHPU and/or Sheffield Flourish’s services in an unpaid capacity. They are individuals who give valuable time to help us to deliver our activities and enhance our support offer.
What is our commitment to volunteering?
Our primary focus in our commitment to volunteering is:
Offering people the opportunity to build their skills, ideas and experience through volunteering within the organisations.
Providing varied activities, richer support, increased capacity and more in-depth insights for Sheffield mental health support through our volunteer’s involvement.
Our volunteers have many different reasons for giving their time and skills as a volunteer, and for volunteer week we’ve asked a few of them to share about their experiences. We’ll be sharing posts on our socials throughout the week on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
At the heart of our volunteer programme is a strong commitment to support and training, so every volunteer feels confident, valued, and equipped in their role. From practical skills to personal development, we’re proud to invest in those who give so much.
💬 One of our volunteers shared:
“The Boundaries training was really useful and one of the best sessions I have done on this.”
Feedback like this reminds us how important it is to provide meaningful learning opportunities alongside great volunteering experiences.
We thank all our volunteers for their energy, commitment, and generosity in supporting all that we do.
