Artists:

Franz Von:

Franz Von is best known as the high octane emcee of much loved afrofusion kings K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade. A well established artist releasing his own music and collaborating with a host of great artists/producers. His blend of Jamaican dancehall MCing with classic old school/boom bap hip-hop rap style, often over banging afrobeat, hip hop and highlife rhythms, has endeared him to audiences at clubs and festivals UK and Europe wide. His skills as an MC mean he can guest with a whole variety of artists and styles, from afrofusion to straight up hip-hop, drum & bass productions to punk jazz vibes. In the last few years alone, he’s graced the mic with K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade, TC & The Groove Family, ONIPA, Wiyaala (GH) Balaphonics (FR), Labo Klandestino (FR) and Vipertime. All along, he’s kept his own Franz Von live hip-hop project going and his love for live music and interacting with musicians in the moment means it’s a full live band. Like a north of England version of The Roots but with heavy afrofusion, rowdy jazz and dancehall elements. That band is made up of some of the kings of the Leeds DIY jazz/global beats scene.

Neighbourhood Voices:

Neighbourhood Voices was founded by Gina Walters (Before Breakfast) in 2017. Inspired by female-led, modern pop and indie choirs such as Deep Throat Choir and Lips, Gina wanted to create a safe space for Sheffield singers to find their own voices.

The choir now consists of 60 singers, who come together weekly to rehearse Gina’s arrangements of songs such as 5 Dollars by Christine and the Queens, New Rules by Dua Lipa and Laura by Bat for Lashes. We sing in 3-5 part harmonies, and regularly perform across Sheffield and beyond. In the past 12 months we’ve performed with Self Esteem at The Leadmill, opened Steve Lamacq’s show on BBC World Music Day, received support from Sheffield Soup and packed our weekends full of gigs.

Though we love to sing to develop our voices and build our confidence, being together as a group brings us enormous light and energy. Catch us at one of our upcoming gigs – we’re the gang in the pink and red.
