We're recruiting: Carer Peer Support Worker

About Us

Sheffield Flourish supports people with lived experience of mental health to use their skills, ideas and talents to build the lives they wish to lead, through creative, mental-health friendly activities, coproduction and digital tools.  We grew out of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) back in 2012 and continue to act as a critical friend, working closely with them around user involvement and engagement, particularly on the mental health wards. We also support the wider health system to ensure user voices are included in service redesign and act as a main conduit for mental health information to the public.

We are looking for someone to join our team who shares our charity’s values:

★ We stand for hope and positive change

★ We engage critically and constructively with key issues in mental health

★ We are realistic about the barriers and exclusions which people living with mental health conditions have to face

★ We recognise and value the richness of diversity and individuality.

★ We value the knowledge, ideas, and skills of people living with mental health conditions

★ We are innovative and creative

About the role

Hours: 22.5

Contract: Fixed term for 12 months

Salary: £25,979 (pro rata)

Responsible to: Managing Director

The Carer Peer Support Worker will be working with individuals who are carers for people who are receiving crisis and urgent mental health services or who have been admitted onto the inpatient wards. Day to day tasks include carer engagement, providing support on a 1:1 basis around practical issues and signposting for carers. We are keen for this role to benefit from peer knowledge and experience; therefore, we are looking for someone with lived experience as a carer for someone with a mental illness and/or experience of supporting people with a mental illness. This role will also potentially involve occasional evening and weekend working and please note the funding is confirmed for a 12-month period and therefore this is a fixed-term role.

As an organisation we are committed to the following principles in recruitment to ensure we can effectively achieve our aim of providing equal opportunities:

  • We recruit for potential, not perfection
  • We are a values-based recruiter
  • We value lived experience as a demonstration of capability for a role
  • We only utilise truly “essential” criteria in recruitment

Please note, as a charity working with vulnerable adults and children, we will request a criminal records check as part of your employment. Disclosure or checks that reveal a conviction or any other information will not, in most cases, result in withdrawing a conditional offer of employment. However, we are unable to employ someone if they are on the DBS Barred List.

To apply, complete the application and send back by Friday 25th April, 5pm.

We will let all applicants know our decision, although we can’t give individual feedback for applications.

We will invite successful applicants for a short, ‘getting to know you’ interview on Monday 5th May. This can be done in-person or virtually. Following this, a smaller number of people may be invited to do an activity.
