Leaving the social media platform X
Sheffield Flourish has decided to phase out use of the social media account X.

After careful review, we have decided to scale back our activity on X. Our team and board of trustees feel the platform no longer aligns with our values of being a stand for positive change and recognising the richness and value of diversity & individuality.
We intend to phase out usage over the next couple of weeks. Then we will leave the account up, with a redirection message to our other socials and newsletter.
Leaving X hasn’t been an easy decision, with pros and cons to consider. Reasons for staying would be that we may lose engagement, however, without upgrading to a paid X account we can no longer access most of the stats to understand the reach and engagement of what we share on the platform. This means the exact impact of no longer using X is unknown. This is part of the reason for a phased exit, rather than ceasing use of X with immediate effect.
Reasons for leaving the X platform are around feeling that it no longer aligns with our values of positive change and recognising the richness and value of diversity and individuality. We also feel the lack of moderation could make it an unsafe environment for users.
We will be conducting a few surveys on X before we leave to find out which other social media platforms our members use, and we’ll be encouraging people to move over to follow us on those other platforms, or sign up to our newsletter.

Sheffield Flourish supports people living with mental health conditions to use their skills, ideas and talents to build the lives they wish to lead, through creative, mental-health friendly activities, coproduction and digital tools. We run open-access, free community enterprises offering involvement in writing, horticulture, theatre, art, music and football. On the digital side, we run four websites; the Sheffield Flourish hub has over 300 mental health stories, two web directories, the Sheffield Mental Health Guide and Sheffield Suicide Support and Prevention, and the My Toolkit platform, where you can plan activities to support your mental health.
