What is it?

The Gleadless and Heeley Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre is a pilot project funded by NHS England that tests a model of mental health care that is more localised, aligns community and clinical support, and is delivered 24/7.

What is it trying to do?

The project aims to test a new approach to mental health support that will allow people to get help early and be treated in their local community without having to be admitted to hospital. Alongside mental health treatment, the support on offer will include prevention activities and promote recovery from mental illness.

Who is it aimed at?

The service will be available to:

  • adults (18 years and above)
  • primarily people registered with a GP Practice within the Heeley Plus Primary Care Network: Carrfield Medical Centre Gleadless Medical Centre Heeley Green Surgery Sharrow Lane Medical Centre Devonshire Green Medical Centre Hanover Medical Centre The Matthews Practice Veritas Health Centre
  • people struggling with their mental health, particularly those with severe mental illness.

Where will it be?

The Centre will be based within the Newfield Green Library and Community Centre on Gleadless Road. There are currently renovation works planned to develop the space.

How can I get involved?

We are planning a series of events and activities to involve people who have a personal experience of mental illness and people local to the area, to help design the look, feel and offer of the centre. If that’s you, please get in touch with Sheffield Flourish on 0114 2737009 or via [email protected].

You can also keep an eye on our socials and website to see what’s coming up.

What will I be asked to do?

There will be different ways that you can get involved depending on what works for you – we have planned in-person creative activities, opportunities to join smaller working groups, more hands-off ways through questionnaires and we’ll be visiting the mental health inpatient wards. Please get in touch and we can support you to help us codesign the centre. There is an offer of remuneration for people utilising their lived experience for the coproduction work.
