CAST is one of the excellent community enterprises supported by Sheffield Flourish.
CAST – or Creative Arts Support Team – is a group of people with lived experience of mental health challenges.
We run weekly art and writing groups, monthly open mic nights and an annual exhibition allowing people to develop their confidence as artists, and promote their strengths to Sheffield’s communities.
Although we’re now an independent group, we have roots in Sheffield Health and Social Care, who supported us in our early days way back in 2009.
“I LOVE WRITING AND I FIND IT EASIER TO EXPRESS MY EMOTIONS RATHER THAN TALKING TO PEOPLE. I SUFFER FROM ANXIETY STRESS DISORDER AND THIS HELPS A LOT.” – CAST MEMBER
We welcome musicians, poets, artists and creatives to a fun and friendly social and open mic night every month.
“THE ARTIST GATHERING IS A SPECTACULAR HIVE OF CAMARADERIE AND CREATIVITY” – “A REALLY FRIENDLY, SUPPORTIVE ATMOSPHERE”
Art for wellbeing
Our art for wellbeing sessions are busy and bustling – with lots of opportunities to try new things.
“MY CONFIDENCE IS GRADUALLY BUILDING AND BEING CREATIVE ON A REGULAR BASIS IS HAVING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON MY WELLBEING – IT HELPS TO LIFT MOOD, REDUCE ANXIETY AND ENERGISE”
The CAST art group is full of talented individuals, and we are delighted to have made some of their work into beautiful cards. You can currently buy the cards at SHSC HQ at Fulwood House (in Costa Cafe) , Sweets and Treats in the Longley Centre, Oakbrook café, Somewhere Else café, Truffles card shop, Forge Dam café AND Coffee Corner. Thank you to the cafes for your support!
“THERE’S NOTHING BETTER THAN SEEING A PERSON’S FACE WHEN YOU FRAME THEIR ARTWORK AND THEY SEE THE VALUE OF IT”
Creative writing and storytelling
Our weekly creative writing and storytelling sessions are for people of all abilities, whether you fancy yourself a writer or have only recently picked up the pen. There are lots of exercises to get the creative juices flowing too!
“LIKE A FAMILY. A GREAT HELP, MASSIVE HELP”
On the first Friday of the month from 2 to 4pm Kay Aitch, long time CAST member, runs crafty crafts – a brilliant opportunity to get busy with arts and crafts.
“I GET A HUGE SENSE OF CALM AND WELLBEING”
We run an exhibition each year which is a brilliant opportunity for our members and people from the community to share their work with Sheffield. We are currently looking for submissions!
“HIGHLIGHTS FOR ME WITH CAST ARE EXHIBITING MY WORK AND HAVING A CHANCE TO PROMOTE IT”
Cast gratefully acknowledge the support of Sheffield Flourish, Sheffield Health and Social Care, Edison’s Coffee, St Mary’s Sheffield, Storying Sheffield, Sheffield City Council and all our other supporters and volunteers.
