Crisis Carer Support Worker

Hi, I’m Adheem, and I’ve recently joined the Sheffield Flourish team as the Crisis Carer Support Worker for a new project supporting carers whose loved ones have been admitted onto acute mental health wards, or are receiving crisis or urgent mental health care. The aim is to create a safe and supportive space where carers feel seen, valued and less alone.

We’re developing a pathway, criteria, resources, and peer-led support to respond to the real needs of carers, with referrals coming from Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. This project is also being supported by Synergy and in partnership with Sheffield Mind and Space to Breathe, who will be focusing on practical and wellbeing support.

As the Crisis Carer Support Worker on this project, I will be drawing on my lived experience as a carer to offer understanding, emotional support, and help in navigating mental health services. I’ve spent many years in the voluntary sector, and more recently as a life coach. I also have personal experience with neurodivergence, mental health struggles and burnout.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me hiking, cycling or running the trails of the Peak District, or at home, learning to play the guitar.
