Mental health friendly courses, workshops, coproduction, codesign, events – a space dedicated to learning from each other.

What is coproduction?
In the simplest of terms, coproduction means professionals working with people with lived experience to do or change something. Coproduction is recommended in law and has been shown to help organisations and services improve support to individuals and at a system-wide level. Sheffield Flourish believes in the definition of co-production as outlined by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE):
“Co-production is not just a word, it’s not just a concept. It is a meeting of minds coming together to find a shared solution. In practice, it involves people who use services being consulted, included and working together from the start to the end of any project that affects them”
We are in the process of setting up a Coproduction mailing list for people interested in taking part in any co-production work either we are running or our partners are running. We will then circulate any co-production opportunities to people on the list.
If you would like to sign up to this then please contact us on [email protected] If you don’t have an email address but would still like to be informed, then contact us on 0114 2737009.

Learning From: Renaming an Inpatient Women’s Ward
Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust’s (SHPU) inpatient wards have been going through a series of transformations and change including refurbishment and the establishment of a second female only ward. SHPU would like some help in naming the new female only ward using a codesign process that will involve people with lived experience of mental ill-health, people who have used SHPU services and staff.
Who – Women with lived experience of mental health. We particularly want to engage with those who have been an inpatient on the mental health wards, at any stage of their life.
How – we are running a short in-person codesign session where we will pull together themes that conjure a sense of feeling safe and calm.
The session will be held on 16th December 2pm – 4pm.
Please get in touch with Sheffield Flourish on 0114 2737009 or via [email protected]. to book a place. A user involvement payment of £35 will be available to those attending in a personal capacity.
Learning From: Mental Health Passports
We have consistently heard how frustrating it can be to have to constantly retell your mental health story when accessing new services or support. We have been working with a lived experience advisory group to codesign and review the use of a digital mental health passport.
This work builds on the previous iteration of the mental health passports coproduced by our partners Chilypep and works alongside statutory health partners and the VCS to look at a citywide approach.
Who – Anyone with lived experience of mental health and anyone who works with people within the mental health pathway.
How – this project has a number of stages, with input needed throughout. The current opportunities are:
- Join the lived experience advisory group – a small, working group that is driving all aspects of the passport development.
- Help us with the user testing of the digital mental health passport to feedback on useability.
- Book in a 1:1 meeting, if you work within the mental health pathway and your work would benefit from accessing mental health passports.
